Summary : Living on an Urban Planet

Cities used to be regarded as negative term and many people viewed cities largely in negative terms. When people think of the word cities, most think of crowded, dirty, unhealthy environment, crime and so on.
But Edward Glaser who is Havard economist asserts that cities bring largely positive benefits. He says that cities are productive because of “the absence of space between people” so, people flock to cities. The flow of ideas is the most important to cities, and successful cities attract smart people and enable people to learn from on another.
Stewart Brand is another person who think that urbanization is productive too. He takes the view form an ecological perspective. Living in cities have less impact per capita on the environment, and people living in dense cities drive less. In other words, cities produce fewer greenhouse gas emission per person than scattered, sprawling suburbs.
Seeing urbanization as evil is mistake.
